Dozens of people from the Greater Milwaukee area gathered at the UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena on Saturday, August 19 in the hopes of starting a new career or finding a fun part-time job. With the Baird Center expansion just a few months away, the Wisconsin Center District (WCD) held an all-venue hiring event to start gearing up for a record number of clients and guests coming to Milwaukee in 2024. Job seekers didn’t leave disappointed, because many were hired on-the-spot. Along with Levy Restaurants, the District’s exclusive food and beverage provider, 86 people walked away with an exciting new gig at the Baird Center, Miller High Life Theatre and UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena.

Once complete, the Baird Center expansion is expected to attract an additional 100,000 out-of-state visitors annually and support thousands of well-paying, sustainable jobs for Wisconsinites. With high-profile events like the Republican National Convention and Connect Marketplace on the horizon, the District is already recruiting hundreds of guest services, set up and cleaning, public safety, servers, ushers and box office staff to lay the groundwork for 2024 and beyond.

“To provide our signature Experience Obsessed level of service, it is critical that we start recruiting Bold and Proud employees to work in all three WCD venues now,” said WCD Vice President of Human Resources Nila Tuckson. These proactive recruitment efforts will allow us to spend time onboarding and training new staff so they are ready to open the Baird Center expansion’s doors with a smile.”

The District continues to hire for both part-time and full-time positions.

“Having a diverse workforce that represents Milwaukee is important to the team at the Wisconsin Center District,” WCD President and CEO Marty Brooks said. “We are excited to welcome new staff members, who will continue our promise to deliver top-notch service and position Milwaukee as a not-to-be-missed destination.”

The WCD plans to host another hiring event in the coming months.
